MOSCOW • ST PETERSBURG

Moscow
Moscow
A truly iconic, global city, Moscow is the 860 year-old capital of Russia. There are dozens of reasons to come. Being one of the most breathtaking capitals in the world, Moscow has a wide range of cultural landmarks. We suggest exploring them all.
Moscow Kremlin
Moscow Kremlin

Discover the treasures that lie in wait for you behind the walls of Moscow’s most famous landmark: the almighty Kremlin! Home to a myriad of the city’s most exquisite cathedrals and monuments, as well as the official residence of President Putin himself, the Kremlin remains a political landmark in Russia and is visited by thousands of tourists every year.

Armoury Chamber
Armoury Chamber
A world-wide known treasure house displaying an exquisite collection of more than 4000 unique Russian artefacts including the world famous Faberge egg collection and royal carriages which once transported the great tsars and their families.
The Red Square
The Red Square
Stepping onto Red Square never fails to inspire. In old Russian "red" stood for the word ‘beautiful’, and the square lives up to the original meaning of its word. The architectural marvels of the St Basil's Cathedral and the Museum of History, the grandeur of the Kremlin and the Mausoleum are among the key impressions the Square has to offer.
St Basil's Cathedral
St Basil's Cathedral
St Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world and is an iconic symbol of Moscow. A true architectural wonder, the cathedral was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in the 1500’s and is lavishly decorated with vivid bold colours, striking patterns and shapes. The building is made up of nine churches connected by a web of narrow corridors; each church is lavishly decorated with intricate frescoes; however the exterior of the building is equally as impressive with its famous colourful onion domes! A common myth is that once the building was complete, Ivan had the architects blinded to be sure that they never build anything as beautiful again.
The Bolshoi Theatre
The Bolshoi Theatre
Moscow has one of the best theatre production companies in the world – the famous Bolshoi Theatre. It is a symbol of Russia for all time. It was awarded this honour due to the major contribution it made to the history of the Russian performing arts. This history is on-going and today Bolshoi Theatre artists continue to contribute to it many bright pages. Get in touch with our Destination Experts to order tickets for one of its illustrious ballet and opera performances.
Moscow Metro
Moscow Metro
Intricately decorated, the Moscow Metro is an immense museum in itself. Your guide will lead you on a tour of the most magnificent stations, adorned with marble, mosaics and chandeliers.
Novodevichy Convent
Novodevichy Convent
Located on the banks of the Moskva River, Novodevichy Convent is one of Moscow’s most renowned historical sites. Built in the 16th century, the architecture of the convent is that of ‘Moscow Baroque’ style and offers a serene retreat from the lively city centre. The convent is home to several churches which are surrounded by a high wall with 12 watch towers. Our guides will bring the convent to life with stories of its past. The necropolis is a must see – many of the country’s famous public figures are buried here, including writer Anton Chekhov and ballerina Anna Pavlova.
Tretyakov Art Gallery
Tretyakov Art Gallery
Named after its founder, Pavel Tretyakov, this gallery is one of the greatest museums in the world and is a must see for art lovers. The Tretyakov Gallery is made up entirely of Russian art and contains more than 130,000 displays spanning from the 11th century to the early 20th. Our knowledgeable guides will take you to the most popular exhibits and will inform you about the artists and the pieces themselves.
St Petersburg
St Petersburg
St Petersburg is a former Russian capital and a stunning city, crowded with splendid palaces, impressive historical monuments, wide boulevards, beautiful bridges and is renowned as the Ballet Capital of the World.
Hermitage
Hermitage
Lose yourself amongst the treasures of one of Russia’s best known sights and arguably the largest collection of fine art in the world. Masterpieces from artists such as Da Vinci, Rembrandt and Kandinsky make the Hermitage an unforgettable visit.
Catherine Palace & Amber Room
Catherine Palace & Amber Room
In the quaint village of Pushkin, on the outskirts of St Petersburg, lies one of the most impressive and iconic buildings in Russia; Catherine’s Palace. The pastel exterior is flamboyantly embellished with gold accents and the interior is far from modestly decorated! The palace is home to the famous Amber Room with its mysterious past which our guides will tell you all about. The residence was destroyed in World War II and has been under construction ever since.
Mariinsky Theatre
Mariinsky Theatre
The Mariinsky Theatre is a historic theatre of opera and ballet in Saint Petersburg. For more than two centuries the Mariinsky Theatre has been presenting the world with a plethora of great artistes, such as Fyodor Chaliapin, Anna Pavlova, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov and many more. Please get in touch with our Destination Experts to order tickets for one of its illustrious ballet and opera performances.
Peterhof
Peterhof
Known as the “Russian Versailles”, Peterhof Palace and Park is a must see at any time of the year. Famous for its myriad of fountains, the grounds of the palace become a haven for tourists in the peak summer months. Look out for the ‘Joke Fountains’ – if you step on the wrong paving stone, you will get wet! If you’re not travelling in the summer, never fear; the parks foliage is beautiful in the autumn and the grounds transform into a striking crystallised wonderland during winter months so there’s never a wrong time to visit.
Peter & Paul Fortress
Peter & Paul Fortress
The first structure to be built in St. Petersburg, and thus the birthplace of the city, it never served its intended defensive function. Instead it has had a rich, hugely varied, and sometimes sinister history as a military base, a home of government departments, the burial ground of the Russian Imperial family, the site of groundbreaking scientific experiments, and a forbidding jail that held some of Russia's most prominent political prisoners.

Dear all
Some late feedback. Client did classic Russia tour with some add ons. Just wanted to let you know that Alan Butcher came in to see me on Friday to tell me all about their Russian trip which they’d done in September. He raved and raved about it

Two Capitals, group tour.

From day one it was just a great adventure.
We were lucky to be there on Moscow Day and had an unbelievable experience. All the people, costumes, music, dancing and fireworks and I'm sure we could have sat in the streets and had our food. I have never seen a city so clean.
The guides both in Moscow and St Petersburg were knowledgeable, service-minded, they couldn't do enough for us and went out of their way to suggest things and where to go in the evenings.
I loved the Russian food, but wish Bosch ? had been on the menu. I liked the Russian hotel in Moscow best, but both hotels were fine. We had problems with the air condition in St Petersburg, but the service was quick and polite to get it fixed.
The train journey through the countryside was lovely and made it possible to see more than just cities.
The castles and churches ,cathedrals and palaces were breathtaking, never before seen so much gold. Interesting to hear and see about the restorations being done, just incredible clever work done. It was surreal to visit all the places one has seen in books and on tv and films, just being there a dream come true. The tube stations in Moscow were magnificent and canal trip in St Petersburg, I could go on and on.
The weather was also fantastic while we were there. The group was just right, eight of us, but we agreed on everything, got together when we were on our own and explored the cities.
I have had a journey of a lifetime and made memories I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Veronika,
It is a little time after our visit, I know, but I hope it is not too late to say a huge 'Thank You' to you for making our trip so smooth and so enjoyable!
We had a terrific time in both cities, enjoying the culture, the sights and the sounds!
The whole visit could not have been better organised and we enjoyed every second of it!!
We have spent a lot of time telling family and friends all about it and showing them lots of photos!!
Thank you again!!
Mike
