MOSCOW

Moscow
Moscow
A truly iconic, global city, Moscow is the 860 year-old capital of Russia. There are dozens of reasons to come. Being one of the most breathtaking capitals in the world, Moscow has a wide range of cultural landmarks. We suggest exploring them all.
Moscow Kremlin
Moscow Kremlin

Discover the treasures that lie in wait for you behind the walls of Moscow’s most famous landmark: the almighty Kremlin! Home to a myriad of the city’s most exquisite cathedrals and monuments, as well as the official residence of President Putin himself, the Kremlin remains a political landmark in Russia and is visited by thousands of tourists every year.

Armoury Chamber
Armoury Chamber
A world-wide known treasure house displaying an exquisite collection of more than 4000 unique Russian artefacts including the world famous Faberge egg collection and royal carriages which once transported the great tsars and their families.
The Red Square
The Red Square
Stepping onto Red Square never fails to inspire. In old Russian "red" stood for the word ‘beautiful’, and the square lives up to the original meaning of its word. The architectural marvels of the St Basil's Cathedral and the Museum of History, the grandeur of the Kremlin and the Mausoleum are among the key impressions the Square has to offer.
St Basil's Cathedral
St Basil's Cathedral
St Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world and is an iconic symbol of Moscow. A true architectural wonder, the cathedral was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in the 1500’s and is lavishly decorated with vivid bold colours, striking patterns and shapes. The building is made up of nine churches connected by a web of narrow corridors; each church is lavishly decorated with intricate frescoes; however the exterior of the building is equally as impressive with its famous colourful onion domes! A common myth is that once the building was complete, Ivan had the architects blinded to be sure that they never build anything as beautiful again.
The Bolshoi Theatre
The Bolshoi Theatre
Moscow has one of the best theatre production companies in the world – the famous Bolshoi Theatre. It is a symbol of Russia for all time. It was awarded this honour due to the major contribution it made to the history of the Russian performing arts. This history is on-going and today Bolshoi Theatre artists continue to contribute to it many bright pages. Get in touch with our Destination Experts to order tickets for one of its illustrious ballet and opera performances.
Moscow Metro
Moscow Metro
Intricately decorated, the Moscow Metro is an immense museum in itself. Your guide will lead you on a tour of the most magnificent stations, adorned with marble, mosaics and chandeliers.
Novodevichy Convent
Novodevichy Convent
Located on the banks of the Moskva River, Novodevichy Convent is one of Moscow’s most renowned historical sites. Built in the 16th century, the architecture of the convent is that of ‘Moscow Baroque’ style and offers a serene retreat from the lively city centre. The convent is home to several churches which are surrounded by a high wall with 12 watch towers. Our guides will bring the convent to life with stories of its past. The necropolis is a must see – many of the country’s famous public figures are buried here, including writer Anton Chekhov and ballerina Anna Pavlova.
Tretyakov Art Gallery
Tretyakov Art Gallery
Named after its founder, Pavel Tretyakov, this gallery is one of the greatest museums in the world and is a must see for art lovers. The Tretyakov Gallery is made up entirely of Russian art and contains more than 130,000 displays spanning from the 11th century to the early 20th. Our knowledgeable guides will take you to the most popular exhibits and will inform you about the artists and the pieces themselves.

MOSCOW CITY BREAK TAILOR MADE PRIVATE TOUR

DAY 1
25 May 2018 Friday

Welcome to Moscow, the mesmerizing capital of Russia! You will be met by your driver at the airport and transferred to the hotel Cosmos* (or similar); you can relax in your room or start an independent exploration. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, you will find two of the most spectacular Soviet monuments in the city. The incredible titanium Space Obelisk, a soviet rocket blasting off into the sky on a 100 meter plume of glistening metallic smoke, was built in 1964 to celebrate Cosmonaut Yury Gagarin's first orbit of the earth. The monument houses an impressive museum detailing the history of Russian Cosmonautics and is guarded by a statue of a pensive Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, the father of Russian rocketry. Across the road from the hotel, towers the impressive Worker and Collective Farm Girl statue, designed by Vera Mukhina for the Soviet pavilion at the 1937 Paris Expo to embody the very spirit and energy of the Soviet State. Directly opposite the Cosmos stands the expansive All-Russian Exhibition Center (VVTs/VDNKh). You can wander freely throughout the exhibition complex visiting pavilions dedicated to Atomic Energy, the Russian Coal Industry, Education and Science, Electro-technology, Agriculture and the Russian Space Program, featuring a genuine Vostok rocket similar to the one that sent Gagarin into orbit on his first successful mission. Also located just a short walk from the Cosmos are the Russian Academy of Science's Botanical Gardens, covering 860 acres of parkland. Founded in 1945, the Gardens now house the largest collection of exotic plants and trees in the country. Overnight in the hotel.

DAY 2
26 May 2018 Saturday

Make sure to start your day with a big breakfast as a full day of discovering Moscow awaits you. You can choose to book optional excursions or explore independently. Overnight in the hotel. TIP Try the Hop on Hop of Bus for an alternative Moscow tour!

DAY 3
27 May 2018 Sunday

Enjoy your breakfast and take the metro to the centre to continue Moscow city exploration. Make sure to spend some time on the Moscow Metro! A luxury underground made of marble and granite is not just a means of public transport, but a special place full of impressive artworks dating to the epoch of socialist realism.
