Ples (Plyos) is a town and the administrative center of Privolzhsky District of Ivanovo Oblast, Russia, situated on the right bank of the Volga River some 70 kilometers (43 mi) north-east of Ivanovo. The town was founded in 1410 by Vasili I as a border post of Muscovy. Take a walk along the cobbled streets of this hospitable place; go up the Cathedral Hill, breathe the fresh air and take a look around. You will understand why famous artists have been coming here in search of inspiration that further led to masterpieces.

Like every ancient city of the Golden Ring, Uglich is home to beautiful temples and monasteries, among which are Alexis Monastery and Monastery of Holy Resurrection. Uglich provincial streets, idyllic landscapes and old wooden houses with carved architraves create a unique unforgettable charm.

One of 8 prime jewels of the Golden Ring, Yaroslavl is known for its ancient monuments and picturesque places. The city is situated on the high bank of the Volga river from where you can enjoy the view of tall slender bell towers and elegant domes of the churches.

On Russia's longest river, Volga, 150km northwest of Moscow, the charming town of Tver dates back to the 12th century. After a fire destroyed the town in 1763, Catherine the Great recreated it to serve as a road palace to rest in on journeys between St Petersburg and Moscow.

The story of Novgorod the Great ('Veliky') goes back to 859 AD. The city was the first capital of Russia and had played a key role in the dissemination of culture, literacy, the development of Russian architecture, painting and applied arts. The city hosts a number of UNESCO heritage sites.

St Petersburg is a former Russian capital and a stunning city, crowded with splendid palaces, impressive historical monuments, wide boulevards, beautiful bridges and is renowned as the Ballet Capital of the World.

Known as the “Russian Versailles”, Peterhof Palace and Park is a must see at any time of the year. Famous for its myriad of fountains, the grounds of the palace become a haven for tourists in the peak summer months. Look out for the ‘Joke Fountains’ – if you step on the wrong paving stone, you will get wet! If you’re not travelling in the summer, never fear; the parks foliage is beautiful in the autumn and the grounds transform into a striking crystallised wonderland during winter months so there’s never a wrong time to visit.

Best of Russia Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Moscow

Transfer to the hotel Cosmos, where you can relax and enjoy the first night of your Russian adventure. Dinner at the "Kalinka" restaurant.

Day 2
Moscow

Enjoy a city sightseeing tour followed by a visit to the infamous Kremlin. Dinner in the evening.

Day 3
Vladimir

After breakfast depart for Vladimir where you embark on a sightseeing tour. Visit Bogoliubovo and enjoy a meal and folklore show before spending the night in Suzdal.

Day 4
Suzdal - Kostroma

Take a city tour of Suzdal before travelling to Kostroma and visiting the Museum of Levitan (famous Russian landscape painter) in Ples. Accommodation will be provided at the Hotel Volga in Kostroma. Dinner in the hotel.

Day 5
Kostroma - Yaroslavl

Take pleasure in a city tour of Kostroma with a visit to the Ipatievsky Monastery. Make the best of an unusual trip to a Linen Factory where you have the chance to take a master class. Afterwards, depart for Yaroslavl where you take a city tour and visit the Spassky Monastery before departing for Uglich. Dinner in the evening.

Day 6
Uglich

A city tour of Uglich puts you in the mood for a visit to a Vodka Museum where you can taste the traditional Russian beverage. In the afternoon depart for Tver where you can relax in your hotel after dinner.

Day 7
Tver - Velikiy Novgorod

After a morning meal benefit from a cultural city tour of Tver before travelling to Novgorod Velikiy where you can spend the night in the Hotel Volkhov. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner.

Day 8
Velikiy Novgorod - St Petersburg

Enjoy a city tour of the historical Novgorod Velikiy before departing for St Petersburg where you spend the first of two nights. Dinner in the evening.

Day 9
St Petersburg

Visit the infamous Hermitage Museum and also the classic Petrodverets Palace and Gardens, otherwise known as Peterhof. The grounds of the palace boast around 200 fountains which operate in the summer months.

Day 10
St Petersburg

Your adventure comes to a close as you are transferred to the airport.
