Classic Trans Mongolian Rail Tour Itinerary


Begin your thrilling journey in Russia’s cosmopolitan capital, Moscow. Transfer to the Cosmos Hotel and relax with an evening meal. (D)


Broaden your horizons with an introductory city tour of Moscow’s most famous sights including a visit to the mighty Red Square and the Novodevichy Convent, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B)


Visit Moscow’s trademark, the impressive Kremlin. In the afternoon depart for Irkutsk. (B)


These days are spent relaxing aboard the train, enjoying the unique Trans Mongolian experience.


Welcome to Siberia! You arrive at Irkutsk at 05:38 in the morning. After breakfast, discover Irkutsk with a city tour then travel to the Listvyanka settlement and visit the Open Air Ethnographic Museum. Transfer to the Legend of Baikal Hotel to unwind. (B, L)


On the banks of stunning Lake Baikal, take a walking tour of Listvyanka, before spending the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening transfer for your train to Ulan Bator. (B)


Reflect on your journey with fellow travellers as you relax on the train.


After arriving in the capital city of Mongolia, begin your journey to Terelj National Park, take in the scenery of Turtle Rock and discover the beauty of the vast steppe with an exciting horse riding excursion. Learn about ancient nomadic traditions, hospitality and way of life while having lunch with a local family. Continue your Mongolian adventure by sleeping in a traditional yurt. (B, L)


Embark on a panoramic city tour and view renowned sights such as the historic Gandan Monastery, Natural History Museum, Bogd Khan Winter Palace, Zaisan Hill and Sukhe Bator Square. Afterwards transfer to the Khabu Hotel. (B, L)


Refuel with a morning meal before transferring to the railway station as you depart onward to China. (B)


On arrival in Beijing transfer to the Novotel Xin Qiao Hotel. Spend the rest of your day at leisure, or allow us to organise an optional excursion.

This rail tour includes 7 nights overnight sleeper train.

On Your Train

Carriages are made up of second class 4 berth compartments, each with 2 lower (65x185 cm) in size and 2 upper berths.

First class, 2 berth compartments do not have the upper berths but are exactly the same size. A reading light, clean bed linen and a small towel are provided. Two lavatories are available to use in both sides of the carriage.

Trains have a restaurant car where you can purchase meals and drinks.

Hotel "Cosmos"

The Cosmos Hotel Moscow is located in the north-east of Moscow on one of the city's main boulevards - prospect Mira. Situated in the Green District, just 20 minutes drive to the centre and directly across from the VDNKH metro station, this hotel is close to the All-Russia Exhibition Centre, Ostankino Telecom Tower, Count Sheremetyev's Palace, the "Olimpijsky" Sports Complex and the "Sokolniki" Exhibition Complex. The architectural simplicity and harmony of its construction in glass and steel works to give the impression of a spaceship heading up into the universe. Even the interior of the hotel creates the atmosphere of cosmic freedom, purity and relaxation.

The Cosmos Hotel has been a firm favourite with Intourist clients for many years. One of the largest hotels in Moscow, the Cosmos boasts a 250 sq. m. pool, a night club, concert hall, bowling alley and many more impressive facilities.

Built in 2006 and located on the shores of Lake Baikal, the Legend of Baikal Hotel is ideal for your stay in Listvyanka. The hotel is cosy and the real highlight is the restaurants panoramic view of the Lake and the hotels sauna, swimming pool and billiard room. Each room has a local and international telephone connection, internet, satellite television and air conditioning. Most rooms also have a balcony that faces Lake Baikal (this is not guaranteed, but can be requested).

Hotel "Edelweiss"

Surrounded by foreign Embassies the Edelweiss hotel is in a sought after area of Ulan Bator and prides itself on the friendliness of its staff. All the rooms have private facilities, mini-bar and television as well as air-con. Facilities at the hotel include a business centre, European and Russian restaurants as well as a bar.

Hotel "Beijing Novotel Xin Qiao Hotel"

Novotel Beijing Xinqiao's is ideally located in city centre of Chongwenmen. Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Wangfujing are just a short walk away. New World Shopping Mall is just across the street. Hotel offers free high speed WiFi broadband in all rooms and public areas. Access to web corner with Apple Mac computers. Unique to this hotel is the source of hot spring water supplied to its rooms and spa. Subway Line 2 & 5 are right in front of hotel and 30km to the airport.
